The MultiTrans word count is representative of the amount of work that is done by a provider, whereas Word and PowerPoint provide a more basic word count.
There are many possible reasons why the word count in Microsoft Word / PowerPoint is different from the word count reported by the MultiTrans analysis. Some reasons include but are not limited to the following:
- PowerPoint considers many special characters as a "word" that MultiTrans does not. This includes full stops, commas, brackets and many more. Word also considers these special characters as a separate word but only if they're not placed directly next to another letter/character.
- The import options selected in MultiTrans may cause certain text to be excluded/ignored when extracting content to be translated, resulting in a lower word count in MultiTrans.
- MultiTrans considers a hyphenated word as two separate words, whereas Word/PowerPoint counts these as only 1 word. This may result in a slightly higher word count in MultiTrans in some instances.
