Symptoms/Context

This article explains how the Product Activation Wizard can be used to deactivate your Single User License for Trados Studio using the Online Activation function. The Product Activation Wizard is part of your installation.

Resolution

To make sure you can use the same activation code when you install Studio again, you have to return your license to the RWS Activation Server:

To do this follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open Trados Studio and go to Help > Product Activation:

  2. In the Product Activation wizard. Click Deactivate:

  3. Click Yes to confirm the message Are you sure you want to deactivate the product?:

  4. In the Product Activation Wizard your license is no longer active:

How to check if the license is returned and available for reuse?

  1. Log into your RWS Account via RWS.com

  2. Go to Products & Plans > Licenses. Here you can see the licenses owned by you and if it has the status Available or In Use (you may need to refresh the page before changes are shown):

Root Cause
The deactivation process allows you to take the activation code from your current Trados Studio installation and apply it to a brand new installation. The deactivation process should be followed if you know you will be re-installing your software on a new or re-formatted machine.
