Issues that may have been caused by corrupt dependencies or faulty registry entries can lead to various issues from crippling errors to Studio and MultiTerm throwing seemingly random errors at random times and even crashes. A clean installation can resolve all these issues and give the software a fresh start.

Following the instructions in this guide is the best chance that any or all of the above mentioned issues will be resolved, if they were caused by either a faulty installation of Studio/MultiTerm, or by faulty registry entries or missing dependencies.

Solution:

A clean installation of Studio and MultiTerm.

1. Download the current installers for SDL Trados Studio from your MySDL Account (https://oos.sdl.com/) from Products & Plans > Downloads
2. Make certain that you have administrative rights and turn of the User Account Control

3. Return all licenses, if possible

4. Uninstall Studio and MultiTerm via Control Panel > Programs and Features, by uninstalling:
   • Trados Studio [Version] - Remove suite of products
   • MultiTerm [Version] - Remove suite of products
5. Afterwards, you can also uninstall all items starting with any of the following:
   • Microsoft .NET Framework
   • Microsoft Visual C++
   • Open XML SDK
   • Java
6. Rename the following folders (these store all Studio and MultiTerm Settings, and may be restored afterwards)
   • C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio or \SDL MultiTerm (choose version if more than one Studio or Multiterm version installed)
   • C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\SDL
   • C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Studio [VERSION]
7. If still present, delete the following folders in either C:\Program Files(86) if you are running Windows x64, or C:\Program Files if Windows x86:
   • SDL
   • Anything starting with SDL
   • Common Files\SDL
   • Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel
8. If still present, delete the following folders in C:\ProgramData (as this is usually a hidden folder you may need to display hidden folders)
   • SDL
   • SafeNet Sentinel
   • SDL International
9. Make sure Windows is fully updated, and install all pending updates
10. Restart computer
11. Turn off any antivirus/security software
12. Run a proper installation by opening up the Studio or MultiTerm installer with a right-click and then selecting Run as Administrator
13. Restart once more
14. Turn back on the previously disabled antivirus/security software
15. (Optional) If everything now works correctly, you can try to reapply the settings that were renamed in step 6.
