To retrieve this information, you need to:
- make sure you have WinZip, WinRAR, or a similiar (de-)compressing tool installed on your machine;
- deactivate the option Hide file extensions for known file types for your operating system (refer to this article for instructions);
- make sure you have a text editor installed like Notepad. This can be found in Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
-
Then use the following procedure:
- Close Adobe InDesign on your machine.
- Browse to your IDML document.
- Highlight the document with one mouse click and press
F2 . - Rename the file type extension
*.idml to *.zip and press Enter . - Extract the renamed document with either WinZip or WinRAR to a folder of your choice.
- Go to the resulting folder.
- Open your text editor and (usually) click on File > Open.
- Browse to the extracted folder and open the file
designmap.xml . - When the
designmap.xml is open in the text editor, look for a field that looks like this example below: product=" 14.0.1" - Compare the number to the table below and you will know which version of Adobe InDesign was used. The release date might be relevant if an SDL product (for instance SDL Trados Studio or SDL WorldServer) supports a version (for instance InDesign CC), but Adobe released an update of that version after the SDL product was released. This means that that version could not have been tested in the SDL product - which might potentially - although rarely - lead to issue.
