Symptoms/Context
When you try to segment an IDML file in WorldServer or Trados Studio, this error message occurs at segmentation (in Worldserver) or when opening the IDML file (in SDL Trados Studio):

The selected IDML file is invalid because required files are missing in IDML package. Probably file is corrupted

Resolution
Resolution to #1: ask the author of the IDML file to check again and provide a valid IDML file that can be opened in Adobe InDesign

Resolution to #2: Since this version of InDesign is currently not supported in WorldServer or SDL Trados Studio, a possible workaround is to change the version in the designmap.xml file to a supported version, as explained in Resolution #2 of this article:

WorldServer - Error message when segmenting an IDML or a MIF file: 'The selected IDML/MIF file was created by an unsupported version of Adobe InDesign/FrameMaker'

This article provide information about which exact version of Indesign is supported on which version of WorldServer.

Root Cause
There are two possible root causes:

1- The error might mean exactly what it says and the file is indeed not a valid IDML files. You can verify that by trying to extract the file (IDML files are archive file, like ZIP). If no archive is found, the file is indeed invalid. Most of the time the file size is also too small, like 4 KB.

2- In some cases, however, the IDML file is not really invalid or corrupted. It has been created in a version of InDesign that is currently not supported in WorldServer or Trados Studio. For instance, it has been created in InDesign 2020 - version 15.1 (released in June 2020) and you are trying to open it in a Studio version that does not support this version.
