Scope/EnvironmentSDL Trados Studio 2015
SDL GroupShare 2015
Symptoms/Context

You check-in a GroupShare file in SDL Trados Studio but the following error message is displayed:

Confirmation statistics word count is greater than the total number of words

Further details: This article only applies if the affected  sdlxliff file was physically merged using several source files before the project was created.
To check whether this is the case:

  1. Open the affected file in the Editor view (do not virtually merge the file with other files while doing this)
  2. In the View menu, enable Full Tag Text
  3. If several tag pairs with a file path are found, the sdlxliff file is merged from several source files. If only a single corresponding tag pair is present, refer to this KB article instead
  4. Open the project in question in the Files view
  5. If the file in question has an expand button (+) in front of it, it has been merged during project creation - not before. In this case, refer to this KB article instead
If several file path tags are present in the file but no expand button (+) is found in the Files view, refer to below root cause and resolution.
Resolution

Solution: Upgrade to SDL Trados Studio 2017 CU5

Install CU5 for SDL Trados Studio 2017: Cumulative Updates for SDL Trados Studio 2017.
In this version, the batch tasks calculate the confirmation statistics correctly.

Workaround A: Re-save File

If one of the batch tasks Pre-translate Files or Apply PerfectMatch causes the issue, the workaround is to re-save the file:
  1. Open the affected file in the Editor view
  2. Click File > Save
  3. Check in the the file

Workaround B: Apply Pre-translate Batch Task and Re-save File

If the batch task Translation Count was applied:
  1. Run a batch task Pre-translate Files for the problematic file. No TM needs to be enabled for this.
  2. Open the file in the Editor view
  3. Click File > Save
  4. Check in the the file
Root Cause
In projects based on sdlxliff files that were merged before project creation, the batch tasks "Pre-translate Files", "Apply PerfectMatch" and "Translation Count" cause incorrect confirmation statistics in Trados versions before 2017 CU5.
The Total words in the conformation statistics are greater than the Words in the file. This causes the error.
