SDL MultiTerm Extract stops working during term extraction

Scope/Environment

Symptoms/Context

SDL MultiTerm Extract stops working during the Term Extraction process and no other processor or memory activity is shown except for the Time elapsed function that still counts:

Resolution

Reinstall Oracle Java version

Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
NOTE: Windows 8 users can open the Run… dialog with the keyboard shortcut [Windows key + R] > type: Control Panel and press OK.
Locate the Java Runtime Environment installations and uninstall all existing Java versions.
Restart your PC.
Install the prerequisite Java version or the latest available.

NOTE 1: For an automatic workaround (uninstall all Java version and install latest Java version) you can apply the steps from the Note section.

NOTE 2: After applying the steps above or the steps described in the Note section below you can install any other necessary Java version if needed.

Prerequisite Oracle Java versions for SDL MultiTerm Extract version:

Install the relevant Java version depending on your version of SDL MultiTerm Extract (included in the SDL MultiTerm installation package).

MultiTerm iX (6.x) requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.1_02 (International version)
MultiTerm 7.0 requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2_08
SDL MultiTerm 2007 requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.5.0_10
SDL MultiTerm 2007 SP1 requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.5.0_12
SDL MultiTerm 2009 SP3 requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6.0_14
SDL MultiTerm 2011 SP2 requires Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) version 1.6.0_24
SDL MultiTerm 2014 requires Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) version 1.7.0_25
SDL MultiTerm 2014 SP1 (and higher) requires Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) version 1.8.0
SDL MultiTerm 2015 (and higher) requires Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) version 1.8.0

Root Cause

This behavior might be caused by a glitch in Java that prevents the system processing necessary commands in the background during the extraction process and therefore gets stuck.

Download and run the SDL Java Cleanup tool

NOTE: Only the latest Java 8 version will reside on your PC.

Download the SDLJavaCleanup.zip file (it contains the file SDLJavaCleanup.exe) from the folder Article_4956 on our FTP site and save it on your local hard drive.
NOTE: If the link above does not work, browse to ftp://leuvenftp.sdlintl.com and click Article_4956 > SDLJavaCleanup.zip. If you are prompted for credentials, enter user name hotfix. No password is required.
Extract the zip file on your local drive. Do NOT unzip the files onto an external hard disk or another partition.
Double-click to run the executable. Make sure you have administrator rights before launching the command.

If you want to keep only the Java 7 Update 55

Download the SDLJavaCleanup755.zip file (it contains the file SDLJavaCleanup755.exe) from the folder Article_4956 on our FTP site and save it on your local hard drive.
