Publication Manager
Symptoms/Context
After installing Publication Manager on a new laptop, users may encounter the following error message: "This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms."
Resolution
Open the Local Security Policy on the affected machine.
Navigate to: Local Policies → Security Options
Locate the policy titled System cryptography: Use FIPS-compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing.
Check if the policy is set to Enabled or Disabled:
If Enabled, this setting enforces FIPS-compliant algorithms, which may cause compatibility issues with Publication Manager.
If Disabled, the system allows non-FIPS-compliant algorithms, which can resolve the error.
Adjust the setting based on your organization’s security requirements and test if the error persists.
Root Cause
This error occurs when the system is configured to enforce FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) compliance, and Publication Manager is attempting to use cryptographic algorithms that are not FIPS-validated.
