You start installing Trados Studio 2022 (or higher) or MultiTerm 2021 (or higher) from your RWS Account. After extracting the components, the installation stops due to Chainer or Chainerhost errors, or because prerequisite components failed to install.

You may receive one of the following error messages:
Set-up did not complete. The error is: Package ‘SDL Trados Legacy Compatibility Module for Studio 2021’ could not be installed. Fatal error during installation. Error number: 1603.
Error 1722: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.
Root element is missing.
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Resources.MissingManifestResourceException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
An error occurred and the program was aborted. You can try running the program again but if the same problem repeat, please generate a debug (usually found in C:\ProgramData\SDL\Chainer\Logs) and contact support.
InterpreterException: The expression threw an exceptionChainer.ProductInfo.Family(newGuid("{1F4F1D2A-D9DA-32CF-9909-48485DA06DD5}")).FirstOrDefault() !=null &&newVersion(Chainer.ProductInfo.Family(newGuid("{1F4F1D2A-D9DA-32CF-9909-48485DA06DD5}")).First().VersionString) >=new Version(10, 0, 40219)
CS0016: Could not write to output file c:\Users... The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
Setup detected a higher version of this product already installed. If you still wish to install this version, you must remove the other version first.

This list is not exhaustive, other error messages may occur as well.

You can also try to work around the issue by manually installing Studio/MultiTerm, as described in the Resolution section below
 

Perform a manual installation

 Check that all the prerequisites are available on your computer and install any missing components:

1. NOTE: Open the Dependencies folder. By default this folder is available in: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\Trados\Dependencies

•  Prerequisites for Studio 2022 / MultiTerm 2022:
  •  2022_vcredist_x86

        2.Install the main components of Studio/MultiTerm:

•  Trados Studio 2022 (or higher): C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\Trados\TradosStudio2022\Modules:
  • TradosStudio
•  MultiTerm Desktop 2022 (or higher): C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\Trados\MultiTermDesktop2022\Modules
  • MTConvert17
  • MTCore17
  • MTStudio17
  • MTWidget17

 ​​​​​​After installing all prerequisites and the main components, SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm should work correctly on your computer.
 

Cannot find path in the resolution steps?

If you not see the files and folder path mentioned in this article it is an indication that you cannot see hidden files and folders. In order to enable the view of hidden files and folders on your computer simply open Windows File Explorer, go to View and check the "Hidden Items" checkbox. This will enable you to access the hidden files and folders on your operating system.

Chainer or Chainerhost errors usually occur when the installer cannot execute all its components, or if one of the prerequisite components fails to start.
