When trying to open a project in Trados Studio 2021, an error is thrown: An error occurred whilst trying to determine the file version: "Validation error SDLXLIFF: Is an unexpected token. The expected token is '='. Line X, position Y." When trying to open a project saved on the USB, the following error occurs: "Impossible to open this project from the Studio edition you are using. Only project packages and single files may be open." |
Re-create the project and re-use the translation memory (TM) to pre-translate: 1. Go to the Projects view and use create New Project > New Local Project. 2. Use the same source file as in the original project. 3. Add the translation memory used in the original project in the Translation Resources step. 4. Click on Finish to create the project. During the batch task pre-translate step, the saved segments in the TM will be used to translate the original source file. If needed, a new TM can be created from the SDLXLIFF file by using the steps presented here: How to recreate a bilingual SDLXLIFF file in Trados Studio. There are cases in which the TM will not contain the latest version of the project, which can be caused by an older Windows save point. For safety, please make sure that, in the future, the project folder is zipped when moving between systems and that the file extensions from the above article are added to the Antivirus exceptions list. |
The error occurs because the SDLXLIFF got corrupt at some point. A few reasons that can contribute to SDLXLIFF files getting corrupt are the following: 1. The synchronization of the folder with a cloud (for example Google Drive, Dropbox, etc). 2. Antivirus settings - please find more details in this article: Trados Studio - Opening Project package results in error: An error occurred extracting the package. Cannot find central directory. 3. The project was not properly copied from one source to another. |
