Error message "Activation failed. The specified lock code is invalid" when trying to activate a single-user license in Trados Studio 2021,2022 or 2024

Symptoms/Context

When trying to activate Trados Studio 2021, Trados Studio 2022, or Trados Studio 2024 license (Online/Offline activation), you receive the following error message:

Resolution

Solution 1.

Download and unzip the attached Wechoid tool on your computer.
Launch Locking Utility (wechoid) (from the Windows Start menu/Dashboard).
Enable Host Name and Disk ID, and disable all the other available criteria.
Make sure that the New Style option is selected and that the Selector field shows 0xC. This indicates that only the Host Name and Disk ID criteria are enabled and that the corresponding code will generate a compatible license file.
Copy the locking code string available in the Code field. It will be used in the following step.

6. Perform an offline activation as described in the article below (use the Code you just copied from Wechoid as the Installation ID to Generate Offline Activation Certificate - only in step 5):

Root Cause

Installation ID (locking code) generated automatically by Trados Studio is wrong - most probably because the computer name contains special characters.
