Can I remove/ delete a field or picklist field value from a termbase structure? |
As long as the termbase is not empty, unfortunately, this action is not possible. You will be able to delete fields and field values only if your termbase is empty. This is intended behavior. ALTERNATIVES
NOTE! It can happen that even after you empty the termbase you still cannot delete the field or the picklist value. This is because you either have a custom Layout, Input Model, Filter, Import, or Export definition on the specific termbase. In this case, you need to Save* these items first, Remove them, and then edit the definition file. Once the unwanted field or value is removed, you can re-Load the previously removed items (custom Layout, Input model, Filter, Import, or Export) to their original location. When working with server-based (GroupShare) termbases, you need to check if you have one of these items under each level in Multiterm Administrator: Public Objects, Restrictions (each restriction), Users (each user).
*Saving items under a restriction that your user is not part of, or under specific users, does not work and will result in the below error message: Value does not fall within the expected range. This is caused by a defect (CRQ-27654) that was reported to the RWS development team and will be addressed in a future release of Multiterm Desktop. To overcome this situation, you will need to add your user specifically under the restriction and restart Multiterm before attempting to save it (don't forget to remove your user after). You will also need to ask the specific users to Save their own items in their own Multiterm Desktop before removing them. Once the required changes are performed in the termbase definition, they can add them back.
