You are working with server-based TMs in Trados Studio and you want to improve the performance of the Analyze Files and Pre-Translate Files batch tasks. These two batch tasks include a TM lookup step that may slow down the batch task processing for large project files. This is because Trados Studio queries the TMs in small TU batches instead of trying to match all the file segments at once, which would block the TM lookup. 

Starting with Trados Studio 2021 SR1 CU7, you can control the size of the TU batches sent to the GroupShare server for TM lookups during batch tasks. By default, Trados Studio 2021 SR1 CU7 sends batches of 200 TUs to match against the server TMs, while older Trados Studio versions send batches of ten TUs. While larger TU batches means fewer calls to the server and faster performance, older Trados GroupShare servers may time out trying to process too many TUs in a single batch.

To improve the performance of the Analyze Files and Pre-Translate Files batch tasks:

• increase the TU batch size if you’re working with TMs on Trados GroupShare 2020 and later
• decrease the TU batch size if you’re working with TMs on older Trados GroupShare servers

To customize the size of the TU batches sent to the Trados GroupShare server for TM lookup:

1. Go to the Trados Studio installation folder. By default this is C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16
2. Open the SDLTradosStudio.exe.config file and search for the "MaxTuBatchSize" parameter. 
3. Edit the value as required, then save the config file.
4. Restart Trados Studio to apply your changes.
