GroupShare: Upgrade file-based Translation Units displaying error in SDL Trados Studio

Symptoms/Context
You want to upgrade for example a TMX file that contains Translation Memories via SDL Trados Studio, but you get the following error message:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Resolution
After closing the import/upgrade dialog in SDL Trados Studio, you can actually see on the SDL Trados GroupShare web UI in System Configuration > Background Tasks that the import is processed.
Root Cause
The error is misleading, because since SDL Trados Studio 2019 and SDL Trados GroupShare 2017 SR1 CU8, the files that are actually first uploaded to the server where they will be then processed/imported.
Previously, the import was done instantly via the SDL Trados Studio client to the server Translation Memory. The error therefore should be actually an information like “file uploaded”.
