Following the release of Trados Studio 2019 Service Release 1 in Dec 2018 and the introduction of RWS's new Language Cloud Terminology offering, the existing Language Cloud Machine Translation subscription packages were reviewed and realigned. These changes not only simplify the package selection, but also incorporate new functionality for Trados Studio 2019 users.

The details are as follows: 

• The Language Cloud Machine Translation packages Free, Basic, Advanced, Expert, & Specialist will be replaced by a set of new packages. For a full list, see the updated package information.
• Current subscribers to any of the packages listed above can remain on their subscription for as long as the subscription remains active. However, these packages will not include the new Language Cloud Terminology benefits. The above packages will be private (can no longer be purchased through our web site) and will not be available publicly and are consequently not available for selection by any new subscriber.
• You are not able to move between packages that are now private. This is by design.
• If you decide to upgrade to one of the new packages, for example to benefit from terminology management in the cloud, your package benefits and pricing will change to match those of the new package.
• For the existing free package and the new individual free package, a revised monthly machine translation character limit of 200,000 now applies. Higher limits of machine translation characters are available in the new paid subscriptions (see link above).
• The Microsoft Office add-in packages have now been discontinued but current active subscriptions will remain active until further notice.

What is Language Cloud Terminology?

How do I access the Language Cloud Terminology offering?

Every user with a valid Trados Studio 2019 Service Release 1 or later license has access to one termbase as part of the free Language Cloud Terminology package. You can create one termbase, add and edit entries as well as access it from the browser and in Trados Studio. Sharing and other features as easy import from Excel are not available in the free offering.

What happens to my content if I am an existing Language Cloud Terminology Beta user?

The termbases you have created in your account are still available and will not be deleted until further notice. However, you will no longer have the full terminology features such as browsing content and editing and adding entries as part of the free offering. To keep using these benefits as well as integration with Trados Studio, consider purchasing one of our new subscriptions for individuals and businesses.
If you have created more than one termbase during the beta period and move to the new free package, then you will have to pick one termbase to keep. All of the remaining termbases will be deleted.
Likewise, if you have created more than one termbase during the beta period and want to keep all of them, you will need to move to the paid subscription for individuals or businesses.  Both offerings give you an unlimited number of termbases.

How do I get the sharing capabilities for Language Cloud termbases? 

Sharing of Language Cloud termbases is only available if you have purchased a paid subscription package.

Which versions of Trados Studio can I access Language Cloud Terminology from?

You can use Language Cloud Terminology if you have Trados Studio 2019 SR1 or a more recent version.

How do I access my Language Cloud account?

To access Language Cloud Terminology, you need an RWS ID. If you have an RWS ID already, you can sign in from Trados Studio using the Sign In area from the upper right-hand corner of any view. When you set up an RWS ID from within Trados Studio for the first time, you need to:

1. Open Trados Studio and select the Sign In area from the upper right-hand corner of any view.
2. Select Not your account? and go to the SIGN-UP page.
3. Once you enter your credentials, you are automatically logged into Language Cloud via Studio and assigned the Free subscription package and you can start using the benefits straight away
4. To view other subscription packages you should select Manage Account from the Sign In area in the upper right-hand corner, this will take you to the Language Cloud dashboard. From here you can manage your subscription by clicking the last icon in the far-right corner and selecting subscription from the drop-down menu

You can buy a subscription during the sign-up stage or later. If you decide not to buy a subscription, remember that once you have an Language Cloud account, you can access all the resources shared with you in Trados Studio.

Can I open a file-based MultiTerm termbase (.sdltb) in Language Cloud Terminology?

No, at this point you can’t directly upload a file-based MultiTerm termbase (.sdltb) into Language Cloud Terminology. However, you can export data from MultiTerm and into a Language Cloud termbase. Follow these steps:

1. Save your MultiTerm termbase definition as an XDT file. See this help page for more information.
2. Export your MultiTerm termbase into MultiTerm XML, using the default export definition. See this help page for more information (use MultiTerm XML as an export definition).
3. Now that you have an .xdt and a matching .xml file, you are ready to import the data into Language Cloud Terminology.
4. Log into Language Cloud and access your terminology resources at https://languagecloud.sdl.com/translation-toolkit#resources/terminology.
5. Create a new termbase in Language Cloud. When creating the termbase, be sure to use the option to load an existing MultiTerm termbase definition. Use the .xdt file you saved in step 1.
6. After the termbase has been created, use the import feature to import the XML file you created in step 2.

You now have a Language Cloud termbase whose content is the same as in MultiTerm, and you are now ready to share it with others (if you have a business subscription) as well as access it from Trados Studio. An alternative to the above process is to use the Glossary Converter app (https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/glossary-converter/195/)  to export a MultiTerm .sdltb-based termbase to XML/XTD or TBX format and import that into the Language Cloud termbase.
