Symptoms/Context

Trados Studio using extra characters from the machine translation provider Cloud resources or Language Weaver Cloud plug-in
When working on a project and using a machine translation provider (Cloud-based resources/Language Weaver plug-in) the actual usage reports shows 2-3-4 times more characters used than the actual project.

Resolution

The cause might be the workflow used when using these machine translation providers. So please try the following:
1. Disable LookAhead or check the documentation section on how to use it when using MT: https://docs.rws.com/980998/535484/trados-studio-2022/lookahead-and-the-mt-quota
2. After pre-translating the file with machine translation please deactivate the MT provider.

3. In the Language Weaver provider disable: Re-send draft and translated segments. See more on how to use LW in the LW Wik

4. If you are using both Cloud-based resources and Language Weaver provider - disable one of them as the same NMT is provided.

Go to File->Options-> Language Pairs -> All Language Pairs -> Translation Memory and Automate Translation and disable the Cloud resources or the Language Weaver plug-in.

Root Cause

Trados Studio is using the machine translation provider as a TM if it is added in the general Options of Trados Studio.
This means it is searching for matches on every segment and also LookAhead is searching ahead 3 segments if active.
