When you are trying to activate a Trados Studio or Passolo Network license in the License Server Manager software (online activation) you get the following error message which puts the license wrongly in use in your RWS account:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Error code 831.
Provider error occurred, code:999. Quantity cannot be blank or 0.

     


Check the following things before trying the below mentioned solutions:
1. Close License Server Manager and launch the SafeNet License Manager tool: Start > scroll for the RWS folder > double-click on the SafeNet License Manager (WlmAdmin) tool.
2. Expand Subnet Servers (click plus sign).

If you receive the message The system cannot retrieve the servers, there is no response to the broadcast it is very likely that the installation of the License Server Manager was incomplete and the Sentinel RMS License Manager service was not installed.

 

Solution A :

Uninstall License Server Manager from Control Panel and then reinstall it.

Solution B (if the problem persists after the reinstall):

1. In the SafeNet License Manager (WlmAdmin) click on the Tools tab > select Service Loader.
2. Check to have the following path in the Executable path:
For License Manager 18.0.79: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Thales\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT 
For License Manager 17.0.648: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Thales\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT
For License Manager 17.0.134: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Thales\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT
For License Manager 16.2.496 (or older): C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT

   NOTE! If the path is not there make sure you add it exactly how it is above.

3. Click on the Add button
4. Ask for a license reset from the SDL support team if the license is In Use under your SDL account.
5. After the license reset was confirmed from SDL support perform again the activation.

Incorrect installation of the License Server Manager software and missing Sentinel RMS License Manager service in Services.msc.
