Trados Studio could not find temporary files or gives "Access to the path... is denied" error when performing an operation (Antivirus Allow List / Exclusion List)

Symptoms/Context
Trados Studio gives and error that it cannot find files located in your temporary folder when performing an operation, such as opening files for translation, saving bilingual files, or saving target files.
Example error:
Failed to save target content:

Could not find file 'C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\SDLTempFileManager\a1b2c3de.fg4
Access to the path: 'C:\.....' is denied.
Resolution

Add exceptions to the security suite

NOTE: Any changes to your security suite are made at your own risk as they may reduce its effectiveness. If in any doubt, you should contact your Antivirus provider for advice. Note that Trados Studio is not at fault here, the problem you are trying to resolve is that of your Antivirus tool blocking its operation.

Add the following folders to the antivirus / anti-malware / cleaning utility's allow list or exclusion list (replacing %USERNAME% with your Windows user name) for Trados Studio 2015 to 2021:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio[version]
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp or at least C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\SDLTempFileManager
For Trados Studio 2022, the location is:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Trados
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp or at least C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp\SDLTempFileManager
If the issue persists, then add these additional folders to the exclusion list for for Trados Studio 2015 to 2021:
  • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL
  • C:\ProgramData\SDL
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\SDL
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL
For Trados Studio 2022:
  • C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\Trados
  • C:\ProgramData\Trados
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Trados
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Trados

The method for adding the folders depends on the antivirus or other product you are using. If you are unsure how to do this, then contact the product manufacturer.
Root Cause
An antivirus, anti-malware or cleaning utility deletes Trados Studio's temporary files before it has finished using them.
