When starting Trados Studio, "Failed to add window command bar extensions" error pops up

Trados Studio 2017 SR1
Trados Studio 2019
Trados Studio 2021
Symptoms/Context
When starting Trados Studio you receive the following error message:

Failed to add window command bar extensions

 
Resolution
Resolution 1:
  • For Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - Rename the  14.0.0.0 folder in:  C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio
  • For Trados Studio 2019 - Rename the  15.0.0.0 folder in:  C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio
  • For Trados Studio 2021 -Rename the  16  folder in:  C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio

e.g. OLD_14.0.0.0 or OLD_15.0.0.0

Resolution 2:

  • Make sure all Windows updates are installed, Check for Updates and after installation, restart the computer. Repeat these steps until there are no Windows updates left.
