When starting Trados Studio, "Failed to add window command bar extensions" error pops up

Symptoms/Context

When starting Trados Studio, you receive the following error message:

Failed to add window command bar extensions

Resolution

Resolution 1:

For Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - Rename the 14.0.0.0 folder in: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio
For Trados Studio 2019 - Rename the 15.0.0.0 folder in: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio
For Trados Studio 2021 -Rename the 16 folder in: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio
For Trados Studio 2022 -Rename the 17 folder in: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio
For Trados Studio 2024 -Rename the 18 folder in: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio

e.g. OLD_18 or OLD_17

Or rename the (SDL) Trados Studio folder from C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\SDL or C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Trados altogether.

Resolution 2:

Go to C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\Studio [your Trados Studio version, e.g 2024]\Projects and rename the projects.xml file to projects.xml_old

Resolution 3:

Make sure all Windows updates are installed, Check for Updates, and after installation, restart the computer. Repeat these steps until there are no Windows updates left.

Corrupt settings or Windows updates not installed
