Symptoms/Context
Trying to open a file-based termbase in SDL MultiTerm > Termbase Management view via Home > Load... and browse to a termbase to open it, the following error message is displaying:
Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 1, position 25

How to open file-based Termbase(s) in SDL MultiTerm Desktop
If you want to open a file-based termbase:
Go to File > Open Termbases > Browse...
Browse to and open the file-based termbase
How to open server-based Termbase(s) in SDL MultiTerm Desktop
Go to File > Open Termbases > Login...
Login/Connect to the SDL Trados GroupShare instance that hosts the server-based termbases and select/open the required termbase..
Root Cause
The "Load..." function in SDL MultiTerm is not supposed to open termbases rather termbase object for already opened termbases. The SDL Development team is aware of this problem and is working on a solution.
