Trados Studio displays the following error message when you try to open an IDML or MIF file:

Important noteUpdating Trados Studio to the newest version by installing the latest cumulative update or service pack may resolve the issue. Cumulative updates or service packs for the latest version of Trados Studio often also introduce compatibility with recent versions of Adobe file formats. If it does not, refer to the workarounds below.
If you are using Trados Studio 2014 SP2 or newerTrados Studio 2014 SP2 or higher can open IDML files even if the file version of Adobe InDesign is higher than the version that was current at the release of Trados Studio. Depending on how you open the problematic file, follow below instructions. Trados Studio shows this error message because the original file was created in an Adobe InDesign CC or Adobe InDesign CS6 8.1 version which your version of Trados Studio may not support yet. Adobe InDesign CC file types are generally supported starting with Trados Studio 2014. However, newer InDesign versions may also change the IDML file format, which in turn may break the compatibility with Trados Studio. In order to set the user's expectations, the error is shown.
