You have translated a PDF file in Trados Studio. When you use Save target as or run the Finalize batch task to create a target version, you get the following error message:

Failed to save target content: The context list is null. Could not get the last child.

Re-translate document using option 'Extract only hyperlink text'/'Never process hyperlinks'

1. Make sure all your translations are stored in a translation memory.
2. Depending on the file you are translating:
   1. If you are translating a Word (*.docx) document: Go to File (Studio 2011: Tools) > Options > File types > Microsoft Word 2007-2013 > Common [1].
   2. If you are translating a PDF document: Go to File (Studio 2011: Tools) > Options > File types > PDF > Common [1].
3. Change Always process hyperlinks to Extract only hyperlink text or Never process hyperlinks: 
   
    
    
4. Confirm the changes with OK.
5. Re-create the project or open the source document via Translate Single Document and run the Pre-translate Files batch task using your translation memory from step 1.

You should now be able to save your target document without the error message.

Depending on the option you chose, you may want to edit your target document.

• If you chose the option Extract only hyperlink text you only need to make sure the hyperlinks direct to the correct address.
• If you chose the option Never process hyperlinks, no hyperlinks will be present in the target document. You may want to re-insert them into the target document.

Since the option Extract only hyperlink text avoids the need to add the hyperlinks manually to the target document, choose this option first. If this approach does not resolve the problem, choose Never process hyperlinks instead.

This error may occur if the option "Always process hyperlinks" is enabled in the PDF or Word Filter in Trados Studio.
RWS confirms this to be a known issue in Trados Studio. Until a permanent fix is available, refer to the workaround described below.

This error may also occur when you convert the PDF file to DOC(X) outside SDL Trados Studio.

For Trados Studio Studio and Express you need to contact the person who created the file and ask for an updated version with the changes described in this article. This is because these two editions do not have Full batch task functionality.   3. Click Edit.
  4. Go to File types > Microsoft Word 2007-2013 / PDF > Common.
