Scope/EnvironmentTridion Sites 9.5 (but likely applicable to other product versions)
Symptoms/Context
- Administrator would like to confirm what folders should be excluded from Symantec or similar anti-virus scanning applications, to avoid negatively impacting performance and functionality while scans are taking place.
Resolution
1. On CM server
- root storage folder for the Publisher (default, C:\temp)
- temporary path location (default %TEMP%)
- %TRIDION_HOME%
2. On CD server(s)
- Incoming folder location defined in cd_deployer_conf.xml
- temporary location Deployer uses to unzip packages in the java.io.tmpDir variable (default varies according to O/S)

These folder recommendations were based on below blog post, and are applicable to a simple test environment only.  Other folders will likely need to be excluded in a production environment.

Note that the %TEMP% folder on both CM and CD servers can be used in the below manner, and administrators should either exclude these folders from AV scanning or change default Tridion Sites configuration to another folder if required.  However, Tridion Sites performance and/or functionality may be affected if AV scanning happens at the same time as the application is using a folder.
- For CD, as a temporary Deployer location to unzip packages.
- For CM, the folder may be specified in the %TRIDION_HOME%/config/Tridion.ContentManager.config file.
<binaryContentStorage temporaryFolder="C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp" />
- For CM, the %TEMP% folder is also used by the CME for uploading cached files.
