The solution is to reset Studio to the default settings, running the SDL Freshstart app available on SDL AppStore for download:

1. Close SDL Trados Studio, MultiTerm and all open Windows Explorer windows (important!)
2. Go to, search for SDL Freshstart and download the app (
3. Unpack the .zip file and install "Sdl.Community.StudioCleanupTool.Installer.msi"
4. Open the application installed, select Studio from the top, select version Studio 2017  and click on "Remove folders" button from the bottom right side.

5. Open Studio and try again to open a project package. Now everything should work as expected.

Studio tries to access the "C:\ Documents and Settings" folder, but that folder is not located on the C:\ drive root.
The "SDL Freshstart" app is also available in the Attachments tab of this article.
