Symptoms/Context

You connecting through SDL MultiTerm Administrator 2014 (or higher) to SDL GroupShare 2014 SP2 (or higher) and receive the following warning message:

Opening the termbase failed. It may be already opened in exclusive mode. Attempt the action again after a while.

When you confirm the message with OK and try to create a termbase at the end of the Wizard after clicking Finish, you may receive another warning:

The remote procedure call failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BE)

NOTE: If you check in the SQL Management Studio you find that the termbase was created, but the dbo.termbases table in MTMaster was not updated.

Resolution

Add database information

  1. Open the SDL Studio GroupShare Console (on the server SDL GroupShare is installed).
  2. Go to SDL Studio GroupShare > Databases.
  3. Add/check the MultiTerm Master Database details for:
    • Database Location
    • Database Name
Root Cause
This behavior can be encountered when the database instance is not specified in the SDL GroupShare Server Console. For the TM Server components it is working fine without specifying it, but the MultiTerm Server component needs to have the database instance specified.
