Error message when opening a remote termbase: The transaction log for database 'tempdb' is full due to 'ACTIVE_TRANSACTION'

Symptoms/Context

When trying to open a server-based termbase from SDL MultiTerm Server component of SDL Studio GroupShare, you get the following error message:

A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server [servername] could not be established. The transaction log for database 'tempdb' is full due to 'ACTIVE_TRANSACTION'

Resolution

Contact your Database Administrator to help you shrink the tempdb or free up space.
Root Cause
This error occurs when the Microsoft SQL Server instance cannot ‘write’ data to the tempdb that the MS SQL Server instance uses, because the "Transaction Log" is full.
