TitleWorldServer - In a clustered environment, on which server does the Garbage Collection run?
URL Name000012984
SummaryThe Garbage Collection is run on the server where the Recurrence engine is enabled.

To check if the Recurrence engine is set up correctly, open the general.properties file in each of the servers belonging to your clustered environment.

Important: there should be only 1 recurrence engine enabled in total, so in a clustered environment, it needs to be enabled only on one of the clustered servers and not on more than one. If the Recurrence engine is enabled on more than one server, this might cause warnings and incorrect behaviour. The log entries related to Garbage Collection will be found in the logs of the server where the recurrence engine is enabled.

Question
In a clustered WorldServer environment, on which server does the Garbage Collection run? I would like to find the relevant log files to be able to check if the Garbage Collection has run successfully.
Answer
The Garbage Collection is run on the server where the Recurrence engine is enabled.

Check on which server the recurrence engine is running and make sure it is not running on any other server by setting the property

recurrence_engine=on

to off or comment it out or remove the property in total). A WorldServer (Idiom service restart is needed for any changes done in general.properties to take effect.

When checking for such entries in general.properties, make sure you check all relevant folders on the servers where general.properties is stored.
