WorldServer: How to export tasks in XLIFF format and import back post translation?

In WorldServer we have the option to export the task or a project in Xliff format.



How do we export XLIFF and make sure to import a translated XLIFF file back to WorldServer?
 

The below steps should be followed:

1. Export the Task to XLIFF format. A ZIP file will be created. The ZIP file will be called tasks_projectname_projectid_targetlanguage_XLIFF.zip. 

2. Unzip the ZIP file. It will contain a file in *.xlf format containing the name of the project and the project ID. For instance: tasks_Cookies_3819_en_GB_xliff.xlf.

3. Now open that XLF file in Trados Studio as a standalone file. Studio will automatically convert it to SDLXLIFF.

4. Perform your translation.

5. At the end of the translation, in Trados Studio go to File-> Save target as and create the translated XLF file. This is the file you will upload/import to WorldServer.

6. ZIP that XLF file.

7. Import the zipped file into the WorldServer project from which it was originally exported using the Import button.

8. After the import, your translation should be visible in Browser Workbench.

Note: In general, we do not recommend using the XLIFF export from WorldServer. The recommended export format is WSXZ. Use WSXZ packages, open the WSXZ in Studio, translate, create a Return package, and import. However, there might be scenarios where using this option might be useful as a workaround, for instance when the export in WSXZ format fails.
