Article TypeSolution Article
Scope/EnvironmentArticle applicable for SDL Web 8.1.
Symptoms/Context
  • Customer has upgraded to SDL Web 8 from an earlier SDL Tridion product version, 2013 SP1 HR1.
  • Content editors use one 'Live' publishing target which has two destinations defined (each publish calls out to two different deployers).
  • Administrator has business requirement to configure same UI for SDL Web 8 as previously, so that content editors can publish to two different content delivery environments simultaneously (multiple destination publishing).
Resolution
In SDL Web 8.1, it is not possible to have multiple content delivery environments rolled up in one purpose within a topology type.  It is possible in the SDL Web 8.5 release, currently available.  As a workaround, multiple purposes can be implemented for a single topology type, and content editors can be instructed to use these purposes.

As a workaround, it is still possible to enable the legacy publishing method and configure a single publishing target which has two destinations.  The Deployer microservices still should be used, but can create old publication targets and point to more than one deployer accordingly).
