WorldServer: Jasper Reports: "Failed to grant service user 'NT AUTHORITY\LocalService' write permissions" running js-install-service.bat

WorldServer 11.8.x

Symptoms/Context

You are installing Jasper Reports manually on Windows by following the instructions in the Online Documentation. When you run js-install-service.bat at the end of step 2, you see the following error:

$[ 5908] Failed to grant service user 'NT AUTHORITY\LocalService' write permissions to log path 'J:\Jasper\Reports\tomcat\logs' due to error '2: The system cannot find the file specified.'$

Resolution

Run the following commands in the same Command Prompt:

J:\Jasper\buildomatic>sc delete "WorldServerReports"
J:\Jasper\buildomatic>mkdir ..\Reports\tomcat\logs
J:\Jasper\buildomatic>js-install-service.bat

Root Cause

This happens because the empty folder Reports\tomcat\logs is missing from jasperreports-server-8.0.3-bin.zip in the WorldServer distribution kit.

A defect has been logged for this, and a fix is expected in a future release of WorldServer.
