Scope/Environment
SDL Trados GroupShare 2017 SR1
SDL Trados GroupShare 2020
SDL Language Cloud
SDL Trados Live
SDL Trados Studio 2019
SDL Trados Studio 2021
Symptoms/Context
When trying to connect to a GroupShare/Trados Live/Language Cloud server, you are not able to move past the initial Server Connection in the Add SDL Server wizard, and Studio throws an error when trying to connect to the server:

Failed to connect to the server. Please check your server connection settings, network and internet connections, and that the server is available.

Add Server error

Checking the Studio logs reveals the following:

Please check your server connection settings, network and internet connections, and that the server is available.

Resolution
  • The easy fix for this issue is to Download the registry fix wizard from here.
  • For an in-depth explanation and solution, please see the article on how to Enable TLS 1.2 on your system.

Root Cause
You are trying to connect to a server where the SSL Certificate allows connections from TLS 1.2 only for extra added security.
You are using a computer with TLS 1.2 disabled, for example, a machine running Windows 7, an Operating System with TLS 1.2 disabled by default.
