You need to create a clone of a termbase. The recommended way of cloning a termbase is by using our client tool - SDL MultiTerm Desktop. This ensures that all references are correctly added to the databases and there are no issues. This is the only supported way. This is described in the following KB article - simply give the new termbase a different name and that will be your clone. How do I recreate a GroupShare server termbase? |
Before doing this, make sure you know what you are doing, have backups and a way to revert your changes in case something goes wrong. This is not a supported way of cloning a termbase, so if this fails you will need to be able to revert or fix the problem on your own. SDL Support may attempt to give you advice if you really get stuck, but understand that will be a "best effort support" situation as this is basically a hack. 1. Create a new termbase from Multiterm Desktop and give it the name you wish - for example "User Manuals - Clone" 2. Identify the database that corresponds to the original termbase "User Manuals" - you can see the name of that database in MultiTerm Desktop (Termbase Management or Administrator views) if you click on the termbase name - look for Physical Name on the right side. 3. In SQL Server Management Studio, restore the database for the "User Manuals" termbase into the database for the "User Manuals - Clone" termbase. You can do that by right-clicking the newly created database and then Tasks > Restore > Database. As the source, select the database for the "User Manuals" termbase and as the destination, select the database for the "User Manuals - Clone" termbase. In the options, check "Overwrite the existing database". |
In some situations, especially when the termbase is very large, you may want to do this quicker, for testing / troubleshooting purposes. |
