PDF Filter changes are not shown in TMS

000009931 |6/5/2019 5:59 PM
Scope/Environment
SDL TMS Version 12.3 and lower
Symptoms/Context
When you try to create custom settings for the PDF filter in TMS, no changes are seen in comparison to the Studio created bilingual files.
Root Cause
The PDF filter version in TMS is V2.0.0.0, while in Studio, the version is V3.0.0.0.  Because of this difference, the filter settings are ignored by TMS.
Resolution
The following changes need to be made in the sdlftsettings file:

Change the SettingsGroup ID from "PDF v 3.0.0.0" to "PDF v 2.0.0.0"

Find and replace the following string
From: xmlns="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/Sdl.FileTypeSupport.Filters.MicrosoftOffice.Word.Common"
To: xmlns="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/Sdl.FileTypeSupport.Filters.Word"

Once this is done, TMS will recognize the filter settings file and change the filter.  Note: Not all settings will be honored as the newer V3 filter has more options than the V2, but any items not supported will be ignored.
Reference
Note:  If the bilingual files were prepared against PDF v2 (in SDL TMS 123), then it will not be possible to rebuild them in TMS 12.4 which only contains PDF v3 file type.  A new job in TMS 12.4 will have to be created and translation leveraged over from the older bilingual files.
