Since the migration from Knowledge Center to Tridion Docs, users without admin permissions can no longer modify any object Property if the object is Released. We would like to have this ability re-enabled because change metadata and object naming is common occurrence post-translation. Authors can no longer add or change metadata values to topics that have been translated, and thus Released. Adding this metadata is necessary to ensure that content is published with the appropriate categorization and this categorization can change over time as new products are added. Scope of changes The Author user roles should have the privileges, while Reviewer and Translator roles should not. Most of the Properties should be modifiable after the object is Released, however some are more important than others. For example, metadata can change when the object content doesn’t change and that will be a common use case. An author will reference a Released topic and need to add a new product to the metadata. The content of the topic does not change so no versioning is necessary. This will happen quite often in our dynamic publishing environment. This request came about because a group needed to modify the naming of some of their objects (Title field), so that is apparently also a use case. There may be a need to better classify objects, via Title, to differentiate them from other objects. The others in the list below (Content Type and down) are less of a priority but we have had some instances where some of these changed after an object was Released. The Properties we want modifiable when Released: * Title (the object name) * Metadata * Content Type (Topic type, Map type, Image type, or Publication type) * Description field * “Enable translation management” check box * The “Changes” field for a version * The “Comments” field |
Released objects do NOT need to be moved to the new status, it just needs a Status Transition defined.
Then test it with a user who only has the Reviewer user role. |
A Released object needs a transition status created to enable metadata edits. |
