Symptom 1: Adding documents in the Project WizardWhen adding a Microsoft Word document in in the Project Wizard Trados Studio, you receive the following error message:Pre-Scanning failed to identify the file type, the following message were generated: Pre-Scanning Error: The file you are opening does not contain any bilingual segments. Confirming the message will close the dialog and display the document Usage as a reference file where the Type and File Type Identifier are unknown. Symptom 2: Opening documents with Translation Single Document or using Align Documents:When opening a Microsoft Word document in SDL Trados Studio 2011 (or higher) using Open Document, depending on the File Type used, you receive the following error message: 1- Microsoft Word 2000-2003 File Type:The file you are opening does not contain any bilingual segments. 2- Microsoft Word 2007-2013 and Microsoft Word 2007-2016 File Type: The file contains "tw4winMark" style used to mark up bilingual documents. The file you are opening does not contain any bilingual segments. When you click OK to confirm the message, nothing happens. The document does not open. |
Workaround A: Remove the tw4winMark style within the documentsNote:
Workaround B: Enable the tw4winMark optionYou need to enable the option in the File Type settings to show tw4winMark style for all new created projects or opened documents:
You can now process the document that is meant to be for translation. Further informationIf you need to translate real legacy bilingual Microsoft Word files, make sure to disable this option again. You may want to consider the use of different project templates for customers delivering different document types, so you do not have to remember to keep switching the option on and off. For further information about project templates, refer to the Help functions in SDL Trados Studio. |
This is because the tw4winMark style is included in the list of styles contained within the document. This causes SDL Trados Studio to interpret the file as a legacy bilingual Word file. It tries to open the file using the new SDL Trados Translator's Workbench file type, but does not find any actual bilingual content. |
