In SDL TMS 2011 SP6, we announced support for SDL Trados Studio’s segmentation rules as defined in a Language Resource template. |
In SDL Trados Studio, the Language Resource template contains the set of abbreviations, ordinal followers, variables and segmentation rules for each of the languages supported by SDL Trados Studio. In SDL TMS, prior to this release, the out of the box Content Types using the .SDLXLIFF-based filters already silently used this Default Language Resource template for abbreviations, ordinal followers and variables but not for the segmentation rules. In the Content Type page, and in order not to alter any existing setup or on-going translation work, the Default Language Resources is now visible but the Segmentation rules in these out of the box Content Types will not be altered when upgrading to this version of SDL TMS, therefore keeping the use of the Sentence SRX file. Nevertheless, it is possible to make use of the SDL Trados Studio’s segmentation rules in a custom Content Type by simply adding an .SDLXLIFF-based Content Type. This automatically enables the Default Language Resources and sets the Segmentation Rules to None, implying that the segmentation rules present in the Default Language Resources are not overwritten by a different set of rules. It is also possible to alter the Default Languages Resource template in SDL Trados Studio (for more than one source language at a time, if needed, for example you could add to the predefined Abbreviations list for FR-FR and RO-RO). You can then export these rules into an .sdltm.resource file which you can import into SDL TMS as a custom Pre-processing resource of the Language Resource template type that you can associate to a custom Content Type. You can add this custom Content Type to a Configuration containing more language pairs than the ones defined in the custom Language Resource template. For example, your Configuration contains the following language pairs: EN-GB > IT-IT, FR-FR > DE-DE, RU-RU > FR-FR. At Pre-processing, the Default Language Resource template will be used for all tasks with the following language pairs: EN-GB > IT-IT and RU-RU > FR-FR. The custom Language Resource template will be used for FR-FR > DE-DE (because you modified the settings for this source language). When associating the Content Type to a configuration, the custom Language Resource template is applied to the languages present in both the configuration and the custom template. Any other language supported by SDL Trados Studio will be pre-processed using the Default Language Resource template. Languages supported only by SDL TMS (for example: Latin) will be pre-processed using the default values from the Default Language Resource template. These are Sentence based segmentation using “Full stop rule” and “Other terminating punctuation (question mark, exclamation mark, variants)” and an empty Variable list, an empty Abbreviation list and an empty Ordinal Follower list. As those languages are not supported in SDL Trados Studio, those values are not customizable. |
