You have downloaded and installed the SDL products you have purchased. However, when you attempt to activate your software you receive one of the following error messages:
These error messages indicate the particular problem you are receiving when trying to activate the software or during the returning process for the license. They mainly occur when there is a problem with your computer connecting to the SDL License Servers over the Internet when attempting to authorize your software.
Error Message 50005: May appear when the link used to connect to the SDL License Servers is corrupted.
Error Message 50018: May occur when the SDL License Servers are not available or because of something blocking the connection between the License Manager and the SDL License Servers.
Error Message 50040: Occurs when you are attempting to use/return an activation code which has already surpassed its maximum usage allowance of two activations.
Error Message 50041: Usually occurs when there is something blocking the connection between the License Manager and the SDL License Servers.

Error Message 50005
Uninstall then reinstall SDL Trados. This should fix the corrupted files.
Error Message 50018
Because the cause of this error message may be vary, there are several things to try:
If you still receive the same error, then contact SDL Support and quote error message 50018. We will then contact you back as soon as possible.
Error Message 50040
If you are using the activation code on two computers already then please return one of the activation codes first to make it available for use. You will then be able to activate the new computer. Please follow these instruction on returning your activation code:
You should now see a message stating that the activation code has been returned. You have now returned the activation code back to the SDL license fulfilment servers and are now able to use this activation code to activate SDL Trados on a different computer.
If this process did not fix the problem, you need to reset your license. Follow the instructions in KB article #4295: Self Service option in My SDL to reset activation codes for SDL Trados 2007 and 2009.
Error Message 50041
This is usually caused by a security firewall blocking the activation process. A firewall is basically a security filter which will only allow authorized connections to take place between your computer and the outside world. If you have not 'told' the firewall to allow your computer to connect to our servers then you will receive this error. Follow these instructions when configuring your firewall.
